RAID 0 splits ('stripes') data evenly across two or more disks, without parity information, redundancy, or fault tolerance. It is normally used to increase performance.
RAID 0 requires at least 2 drives to implement

Characteristics & Advantages

  • RAID 0 provides great performance in read and write operations.
  • No overhead caused by parity control.
  • Performance can be enhanced further by using multiple controllers, ideally one per disk
  • The technology is easy to implement

Disadvantages

  • No data redundancy.
  • Controller design is fairly complex
  • Very difficult and resource intensive to do as a "software" RAID
